About
MY BACKGROUND
Certified in secondary art and biology early in my career, I taught junior high art, eighth grade physical science, tenth grade biology, high school graphic design and high school yearbook. Throughout my professional career as a graphic designer and illustrator, I’ve always passed on my knowledge and experience to my peers (and even clients) by sharing the design process so they could better understand how their changes would affect the timing of project delivery. As a corporate instructional designer at Cerner, I created training for the VA to train them on how to use their new electronic health record (EHR). Currently, I'm an instructional designer on the L&D team at GEHA and continue to leverage my art and multimedia skills in the instructional design space. I specialize in creating digital eLearning and instructional videos, but I also shine in developing instructional design at the programatic level including learning journeys, blended learning, and courses. I also love facilitating whether it's face-to-face, virtual, a/synchronous, or even a blended approach. While I can create any format of instruction, my main focus is always delivering that which is best for the learner.
Over my long career (beginning in 2000), I’ve become an expert in Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Audition, and Premiere Pro. I’ve not only successfully taught these software products to secondary students, but I’ve also taught adults to use them. I have real-world experience producing a wide variety of graphic design and instructional deliverables using Adobe and online software (including Articulate Storyline, Rise360, and Captivate). If it can be visualized, I can design it!
As an instructional designer, I’m a big proponent of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and ensuring all materials are accessible. Not only do I focus on delivering content in a variety of ways to appeal to the strengths of individual learners (the core of UDL), but I also understand the importance of each piece of content (no matter how it’s delivered) being 508 compliant and meeting accessibility standards. Everyone should be able to access their learning content no matter how they consume it.
