About

MY BACKGROUND

I taught school early on in my career and was certified in secondary art and biology. At the time, I taught junior high art, eighth grade physical science, tenth grade biology, high school graphic design and high school yearbook. Throughout my professional career as a graphic designer and illustrator, I’ve always passed on my knowledge and experience to my peers and even clients by educating them on the design process so they could better understand how their changes would affect the timing of project delivery. I have worked as an instructional designer in the corporate world at Cerner creating training for the VA to help them understand how to use their new electronic health record.

I am passionate about health! As a former biology teacher and working at Cerner, a Healthcare IT company, for the past 6 years, I read all I can on the topic. I am a teacher at heart which is why I decided to earn my Master’s Degree in Instructional Design.

Over my 23 year career, I’ve become an expert in Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver and Premiere Pro. I’ve not only taught these software products to secondary students, but I’ve also taught adults (my peers at work) to successfully use them during my time at Cerner. I have real-world experience producing a wide variety of design and instructional deliverables using Adobe and online software. If it can be visualized, I can design it!

As an instructional designer, I’m a big proponent of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and ensuring all materials are accessible. Not only do I focus on delivering content in a variety of ways to appeal to the strengths of individual learners (the core of UDL), but I also understand the importance of each piece of content (no matter how it’s delivered) being 508 compliant and meeting certain accessibility standards.
